The driver for T & E Racing is also the team owner. Bill Dunham can be found most weekdays biding his time working as a Locomotive Engineer for the CN Railroad, based in Battle Creek, Michigan. Racing is near an all-consuming passion, so on the day’s that work does not call, he will be found fussing with the car in the shop.
Bill has a racing pedigree that dates back to 1977. After spending several years driving cars with fenders, the call of open wheel cars could no longer be resisted. Several years in modified cars led to the purchase of a sprint car. The expense of running a sprint car soon took its toll though, and despite the continued desire to race, retirement from the sport was the only option. So, at the end of the 1984 racing season, he hung up his helmet, seemingly for good.
Fast forward to 2005. Bill was looking for a home in the Battle Creek area when he spotted a micro midget in an open garage. A short conversation with the owner led him to the realization that micro midgets might be something he could afford to race. They provide most of the bang of driving a full sized sprint, but at a very reasonable cost. Classifieds were read, phone calls were made, and soon a car came home. Now, some 30 years after the bug first bit, Bill can be found most Friday and Saturday nights chasing that elusive checkered flag.
- T & E stands for "Trial & Error"
- Some have noticed the letters "OEII" on the front of my car, and have asked what they mean. Actually it's an inside joke between me and my sponsor Tom Erwin of Erwin Motorsports. When I first took the car down to be lettered, he looked it over with curiosity, much as he did the 1998 Concept Chassis I had rebuilt two years earlier. After going over the car from one end to the other, he made this observation. "You need to put 'Over Engineered 2' on the side of the car somewhere".... I also had "OEI" made up to put on the 1998 that we use for indoor racing.
